Raising Awareness about Oral Health: Crucial for Rural Communities

Ian Kreher

Featured in the Spring issue of Pennsylvania Rural Health, the PCOH has been helping to advance awareness of the importance of oral health in Pennsylvania's rural communities.  Pennsylvania Rural Health is published twice a year by the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health (PORH).

Please feel free to download a copy of this issue of Pennsylvania Rural Health, here.

For more information on rural health issues including copies of previous issues of Pennsylvania Rural Health, check out the PORH website.

Insure Kids Now!

Ian Kreher

From 2007 to 2011, almost half of all states (24) achieved at least a ten percentage point increase in the proportion of children enrolled in Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that received a preventive dental service during the reporting year.  Yet, tooth decay remains one of the most common preventable chronic childhood diseases. Tooth decay can cause significant pain, loss of school days and can lead to infections and even death.

Tips for a Healthy Smile

Ian Kreher

PCOH has made this free brochure available for distribution at health clinics, pediatricians’ offices, Head Starts, or anywhere else that gets frequent visits from parents of young children. It offers tips for parents on how to take care of their infants’ and toddlers’ teeth, and provides information on how fluoride varnish helps to prevent cavities.
