This new study shows that there has been an increase in emergency room visits for dental treatments in young adults. The total number of dental emergency department visits in the United States has nearly doubled from 2000 to 2010, according to the American Dental Association. The greatest increase in these visits has come from young adults because total dental related emergency room visits for people aged 21 to 34 years has increased from 1.5% to 3.0%. According to the data, young adults are visiting the emergency room for dental care because they cannot pay for comprehensive oral care. Studies like this show that recognizing the issues in access to care can be accomplished when the data is available.
