Charitable Work Tracking Project

The Project

Pennsylvania has nearly 13 million residents with over 2.8 million children and adults enrolled in Medical Assistance. Of the nearly 10,000 licensed dentists in Pennsylvania, only 23% accept Medical Assistance. Many dental providers choose to provide free care or volunteer their services instead of enrolling as a Medical Assistance provider. There are people in the state being forced to seek free and charitable care to meet their dental needs. This project involves collectively gathering information about free and charitable dental care provided annually within the state of Pennsylvania. Survey participants include year-round free clinics, pop-up dental missions and charity events run by dental service provider organizations. Data is collected via a survey distributed to charitable organizations in the PCOH database.
