Dr. Peng Cheng
Dentist and Owner
Perfect Smile Dental, Inc.
What originally sparked your interest in oral health?
Growing up, I was fascinated by the connection between oral health and overall well-being. Observing how a healthy smile could transform a person's confidence and quality of life inspired me to pursue dentistry. I realized early on that oral health is not just about teeth—it's a vital part of holistic health care.
How did you become involved with PCOH?
As a dentist and owner of a group practice in Pennsylvania, I have always admired organizations that advocate for equitable access to oral health care. The mission of PCOH aligns with my passion for improving oral health outcomes in our community. I became involved by engaging with their initiatives and reading their newsletters, which provide valuable insights and resources. I find their work incredibly inspiring and informative, and it’s an honor to contribute to their efforts.
What is the most challenging part of your work in oral health?
One of the most challenging aspects is addressing the barriers patients face in accessing quality care. These barriers can include financial limitations, insurance complexities, or a lack of awareness about preventive oral health practices. As a practice owner, I also navigate the ongoing challenges of ensuring operational efficiency while maintaining the highest standard of care.
If you could see one oral health goal reached, what would it be?
I would love to see universal access to preventive dental care for all. Early intervention and routine check-ups can drastically reduce the prevalence of severe dental issues and improve overall health. Achieving this goal would require collaborative efforts to expand education, policy support,
and resource allocation.
What keeps you motivated?
The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in my patients' lives keeps me going. Whether it's helping someone overcome dental anxiety or restoring their ability to smile with confidence, the impact of my work is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, the dedication of my colleagues and the resilience of the communities I serve inspire me to keep pushing forward.
I recharge by:
Spending quality time with family and friends, exploring new cultures and cuisines through travel, enjoying quiet moments to reflect, immersing myself in music, and diving into a good book. These activities help me return to my work with renewed energy and perspective.
Thank you to Dr. Peng Cheng for contributing to the oral health movement!
